Aside from this blog, Shoot New York City also has a newsletter which comes out twice a month that you can read at your leisure. I started writing it more than 5 years ago and it provides tips and information about street photography, and of course NYC! You can subscribe here.
My Instagram account was hacked. I spent all kind of time trying to get it back. Alas, I have a new account now. ShootNewYorkCity
Yes, I provide photo tours for families with children and we always have fun. Here’s an excerpt from a review written in December 2021.
She made my kids (11 and 13) feel central to the experience and tailored the route to take in all our interests. This tour was great because we went to places that I just wouldn’t have considered: cultural icons, points of history, alleys of art, I could go on. We took amazing photos too. That afternoon is one I will remember.

We don’t often get the opportunity to get cool snow photos in New York City! But when we do, we definitely take advantage of it. You need a fast shutter speed to capture snow. This photo was taken during a street photography workshop in Midtown Manhattan.
Bicycles are another favorite subject to capture. Especially when there’s steam and snow. It’s like a trifecta! This was taken during a recent street photography workshop.

There’s always something to photograph. If you stop and look around you it’s often right there in front of your face. Raindrops are great to capture. If you shoot digital, you may have to use manual focus.
There’s so much street art around the city and on occasion I like to incorporate it into my street photography with what’s there is a good practice.

Once upon a time, I wouldn't have thought to shoot into the sun. But I’ve been doing it for a number of years now. In can provide a nice diffused light in a photo. The problem is that it isn’t always obvious if a photo worked well at the time of shooting as it can lead to a temporary kind of ‘blindness’. This photo was taken during a recent street photography workshop.
There are so many methods of shooting street photography. I always work with what’s available when we’re out shooting and I also take into consideration your interests. In this workshop we were experimenting with different kinds of framing. We always have fun taking interesting photos.

Bushwick is home to one of the largest collections of street art in New York City. I do private tours and workshops to Bushwick and other neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
I realize that many people wonder what they might expect when taking a workshop or tour with me. You only need to have a look through some of the reviews on my site and TripAdvisor to get a good idea. Below is an excerpt for a previous review.
I really do need to say a big thank you for taking me on board and guiding me through the streets of New York. I have started to look at the photos and I am reflecting on the time I spent with you. As I reflect, I realise that what you have to offer is invaluable and goes well beyond simply identifying possible photo opportunities. New York was really my first attempt at Street Photography and you taught me so much. I know I was probably more focused on the buildings than the people but I did take in everything you said and I did learn a lot. I came home much wiser and a much better photographer for what you taught me. In the days after the workshop, I found myself using what you had taught me and more importantly looking at what was in front of me with a completely new perspective. I came home a much better photographer and for that I will always be grateful.
