Walking Photo Tours and Street Photography Workshops in NYC

News

Aside from this blog, Shoot New York City also has a newsletter which comes out twice a month that you can read at your leisure. I started writing it more than 5 years ago and it provides tips and information about street photography, and of course NYC! You can subscribe here.

Synchronicity in Motion

One of my favorite things to detect and shoot is synchronicity. If you watch people on the streets, as I do frequently, you will see people in sync. It’s just one of many things that you can capture when shooting street photography.

This photo was taken during a street photography workshop in Hell’s Kitchen on 10 March 2020.

Street Portraits

So street photography is always candid. But sometimes I take a few street portraits. This man just jumped in front of my camera and starting posing for it. He even did his take on Rodin’s The Thinker! This was taken during a recent street photography workshop in Chinatown. To say the least, it was fun!

Camera Gear for Street Photography

I think that the whole camera gear for street photography conversations are blown out of proportion. It isn’t necessary to have the latest model. A camera is just a tool. You are responsible for choosing the composition and exposure.

Forget the camera, forget the lens, forget all of that. With any four-dollar camera, you can capture the best picture.  Alberto Korda

The only exception to this in street photography might be the lens that you use. If you are looking to create straight ahead street photography, it should always be with a wide angle lens. Not zooming in on your subject from afar.

I read the news today

It’s becoming less frequent that you can see and capture people reading a newspaper in public. Bonus is that I also got eye contact as well. This was taken during a street photography workshop in Chinatown.

Street Photography in the Rain

Shooting street photography in the rain is fabulous. Yes, you do need to protect your equipment. But I haven’t encountered a problem yet. Upcoming will be a series of some of my favorite street photos in the rain.

Quiet Streets

Since the pandemic there have been fewer people on the streets, It is an opportunity to capture photos that wouldn’t have been possible before.

This man all by himself looking as if in his own world was taken during a street photography workshop that I held in September 2020. I am still holding a few workshops with masks required and social distancing.
